Sharon Mars
Senior Rabbi

Sharon Mars became the senior rabbi at Temple Israel in 2017, and for 4 years prior to that served as TI's Associate Rabbi and Director of Community Engagement.  She received her rabbinic ordination from Hebrew Union College, New York in 1998. Previously, Sharon served as a rabbi in Jewish Community Centers, hospice, state penitentiaries, senior care, mental health facilities, and Jewish summer camps. Sharon was the campus rabbi at the North Carolina Hillel in Chapel Hill for six years. She has studied at Hebrew University, the Institute for Jewish Spirituality, the Mussar Institute, the Shalom Hartman Institute, and is a Hadar Jewish Wisdom Fellow. Her rabbinate is rooted in mindfulness and social justice.  Rabbi Mars is incredibly proud to serve a congregation which is so deeply committed to intellectual exploration, spiritual journey-taking, and relationship-building.

Bat-Ami Moses
Cantor

Cantor Bat-Ami Moses is delighted to be living in Columbus, Ohio and serving Temple Israel. A native of Los Angeles, she received her investiture from the H.L. Miller Cantorial School of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America with a Masters of Sacred Music in 2007. She also holds a B.F.A. in Musical Theater from Syracuse University and an M.S. Ed. in Museum Education from the Bank Street College of New York. Before coming to Columbus, she served in several pulpits including the Conservative Synagogue of Fifth Avenue in New York and the Midway Jewish Center in Syosset, NY.  She is a member of both the Cantor's Assembly and the American Conference of Cantors, and has been a  participant in the Institute of Jewish Spirituality's cohort of Rabbis and Cantors. 

Cantor Moses has been a guest artist, prayer leader and scholar in residence at synagogues throughout the country. She was highlighted in a series called "Creating Soulful Worship," along with Craig Taubman and Joey Wiesenberg, and has performed with other Jewish artists such as Billy Jonas, Dan Nichols and Rick Recht. She has an extensive theatrical resume performing off-Broadway and regionally, and has produced and performed in many concerts, such as "From Broadway to the Bima," and several benefit concerts for ATZUM, an organization dedicated to pursuing social justice in Israel.

She can be heard on many recordings and CDs such as, "Kol Bat-Ami" and "Bo Nashir, Come Sing With Me!" her original Jewish kids music. She can also be heard on three musical compilations produced by the Cantors Assembly,  "The BEST OF Jewish Children's music, Hope and Healing, and Simcha and Celebration."  You can listen to her latest recording of the music of Temple Israel's Shabbat band, "SHIRjoy!"  Click here.

It is Cantor Moses' passion and vision to elevate people to their own prayer and healing through the languages of music and liturgy intertwined. She is married to Rabbi Jay Moses, who is the Vice President of the Wexner Foundation and is the proud mother of two sons, Caleb and Ezekiel.

Sam Klein

Rabbi Educator

Rabbi Sam Klein, a native of Champaign-Urbana, IL, was ordained as a Rabbi by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles where he also earned his Master’s of Arts in Hebrew Letters. He has a Bachelor’s Degree from Cornell University. He also studied in Israel at the Hebrew Union College, Shalom Hartman Institute, and in Tzfat at Livnot U'lehibanot.

 

He previously served as a religious school director at Kol Tikvah in Woodland Hills, CA and served as student rabbi at both Congregation Or HaTzafon in Fairbanks, AK and Congregation Shir Ami in Castro Valley, CA while completing his studies in rabbinic school.

 

The Rabbi Educator is responsible for directing the Religious School, oversight of the Youth Program, and overall engagement of youth at Temple Israel. Rabbi Klein’s portfolio also includes crafting innovative educational experiences for students of all ages, pastoral care, and worship.
